Apparently Arkansas' Bobby Petrino has appealed that whole pesky transfer-has-to-sit-out-a-year rule for his new QB Ryan Mallet.
Never mind that the rule is there to penalize kids for deciding to not honor a commitment they signed to play football in exchange for a free education at a good school. Forget that whole "commitment thing."
Meh. Overrated.
The poor kid was being exploited and stuff. His new coach was mean.
I actually have the transcript of Petrino's conversation with Myles Brand about this.: Hey Myles, this is Bobby Petrino
: Hey, Bobby welcome back! Thanks for not forgetting about us little guys and coming back.
: Anytime man. Say, Myles I have a favor to ask.
: Sure dude. What's up?
: Weeeeeeeeellll..... I got this Ryan Mallet kid who transfered down here from that Meat Chicken school. (That team that embarrassed you by losing to the NAIA team)
: What about him?
: I need him to play this year, Myles.
: Rules are Rules, Bobby. That penalty is there for a reason.
: Well, we need to appeal Myles.
: On what grounds?
: Hardship, Myles. Hardship.
: What hardship?
: Well his coach at Michigan was mean to him. He had to transfer. Tell him Ryan.
: Mr. Brand, This is Ryan Mallet. That coach Rodriguez was mean.
: Mean?
: Yes, sir. He started talking about some spread offense thing. He wanted me to actually run WITH the ball sir.
: That's not going to cut it Bobby. Say y'all had a good little QB two years ago... Mustang or something. What happened to him?
: He got mad and transfered. Something about Wildcat formations. I dunno, Myles. We didn't even play Kentucky that year!
: Bobby that's just not good enough. Do you have any real hardships?
: I didn't want to go there Myles, but have you heard of Casey Dick?
: ... ... ... ... oh.
: I tell you what, Bobby. That's a fair hardship. We'll see.
Say, You let me ride one of them fancy Escalades D-Mac was in last year and we
got a deal. heh heh.
: Coach P, He can use mine. Jerr... err... Mr. Jones said I'll have that new Beamer by the end of the week
: ....
....
.... Bobby we need to ta...
: Look, Myles we gotta go. Signing day and all. My people will send over the paperwork. 'Preciate it.

In the middle of all the recruiting news
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
UPDATE:
http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/wire.asp
- Jones goes to Bama.
-Scott goes to Colorado.
- Sedrick Johnson switches letter from A&M to Iowa State. Why? Who knows.
- A&M is taking a few hits here. They've got a decent class, but can't lose anymore. Rod Davis could still pull out tonight.
HOLY CRAP.
Signing Day is my 3rd favorite day of the year in college football.
Already pretty crazy year of committing and decommitting and signing and leaving.
Insanity.
The big ones we're currently waiting on
-Terrell Pryor has said he won't declare today.
-Julio Jones is rumored to be a lock for Bama but hasn't signed yet
-Darrell Scott is still between Texas and Colorado and will announce sometime while we're all at lunch
- Sam McGuffie pulled his name from the commited to Michigan list and is now considering Cal. Probably because he wants to run behind the newly signed offensive lineman Kevin Hart.
- Kapron Lewis-Moore pulled out from Texas A&M to Notre Dame. Curse you, Crew Cut... curse you.
More to come...

Pryor doesn't declare manana!!
In unrelated news thousands of people in Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania collectivlely suffocate from holding their breath.
SI.com says that Pryor will visit PSU before declaring. We knew he was considering PSU but nobody knew he would push off the decision till later on this month/year/decade.
This could work.
From the article:
"The Georgia House voted 151-9 Friday in favor of a resolution urging the NCAA to create a playoff system for college football."The only major sporting event without a playoff system to identify its true champion that I know of is NCAA Division 1 football," said state Rep. Quincy Murphy, D-Augusta.
Georgia was ranked fourth in the BCS entering the last week of the season, behind Missouri, West Virginia and Ohio State. When Missouri and West Virginia lost, Georgia did not rise to second behind Ohio State but dropped to fifth in the BCS. Southeastern Conference champion LSU vaulted from seventh to second."

Ahh... democracy. If we can't get what we want on the field, we'll just pass a law to get it!!
It really could work. I mean what does it take, something like 67% vote to pass things in congress?
Basically we just have to have one school get screwed each year out of the MNC and they'll
get this done in 30 years.
Here's a question for you. Do you really think the NFL playoff discovered the best team this year? If you think for one second that the Giants were the best team in the NFL in the 2007-2008 season, you're off your rocker. They weren't the best team in their Division. Now I'm glad they won
I'm for a playoff, plus-one, pick a name out of a hat, or whatever. You name it, and it's probably better than what we have in place now.
It may be me, but going to congress because your panties are in a wad over not getting invited to the big dance is just petty.
Petty and low. I'm really surprised this hasn't gotten any coverage on the blogosphere.
Here's hoping it doesn't.
On a separate thought.... my money is on the 9 votes against this are true Georgia Tech Alums, not the t-shirt fans mentioned in the article. You can't bumpersticker your hate. It takes 4 years or more to develop it.
Bob Knight resigns, says I don't have time for this ****
We're a college football blog here, but we know a legend and bad son of a gun when we see one.
He didn't have the greatest tact and he could have calmed down his shtick throughout his career, but Knute Bryant can't help but respect a guy who says what's on his mind. He didn't put up with back talking from his players, dumb administration, or stupid questions from the media, and we love that from anybody.
While his career will be more remembered for the chairs, choking, and cussing, we'll always remember him as one of the greatest coaches of the motion offense, which knocked off some good teams even with some of Knight's less talented teams. Kudos to you Bobby. Kudos to you.
Some of his greatest moments:

Recruiting Awesomeness
Click me for a great article.
If that's me I'm signing my letter of intent for Hawaii. Not for the football but because it's for Hawaii.
I'd just like to say that I'm here and have four years of eligibility. I can cheap shot (or just shoot) anybody and get ejected every other game if that's what you need. I'm hereby signing my letter of intent to Hawaii.
Is that how it works?
*** Update:
Holy crap! Who knew?
I would hate to live in New York State
Why the title to this posting you ask?
Because your tax dollars are about to be wasted tomorrow paying for a parade for a team that isn't even housed in your state.
I don't guess you could ask for much more.
You did elect somebody who had never lived in your state before to senate six months after they moved there so I guess you're already good with people mooching off your stuff.

Bill Belichick continues to be a class act
While there's a whole lot of important analysis on the game last night there is one thing that stood out to me above certain others.
Bill Belichick did the same thing the last time he lost (an upset from Eli Manning's brother Peyton in last year's Divisional playoff game.) He said the minimal in congratulations to Tom Coughlin and hightailed it out of there with 1 second remaining. I could give him the benefit of the doubt to believe that he really thought the game was over. That wouldn't excuse the whole not talking to any of the players on his team or the Giants
The great winners usually aren't good losers, but Bill takes the cake.
On other notes:
ESPN continues to be a cancer to the teams it promotes as the greatest ever.
I'll be honest here, ESPN.
Here are my teams: Texas Tech University, Texas A&M University, Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, and the Texas Rangers. I know it's not likely, but if any of them have continued success similar to USC or the Patriots success, I would appreciate it if you give them the minimal coverage possible.
K. Thanx. Bai.

Friday's Freakin' Awesome Film
Noel Devine averaged something like 27 yards a carry this game.
With no touchdowns.
